File Name

The file name is how a computer would reference your file. It should be distinguished from the Page Title, which is what FrontPage displays on link bars and page banner. A file name will usually end with an extension such as .htm, .html, .shtml, .asp, .gif, .jpg, etc.

When you have a page open for editing in FrontPage, the file name is what shows up in the tab. The file name is also what shows up in the Folder List.

When you are creating a new page or renaming a file, be sure that you avoid putting spaces in the file names, although you may use dashes or underscores to separate words. For example:

  • Don't name a file "my page.htm."
  • Instead, name it "my-page.htm" or "my_page.htm."
