• Gif is a specific kind of graphics files format.
• You can only have 256 colors in gif files.
• Gifs work well for images that have few colors (think of "cartoons" or simple logo images).
• The gif format also allows for animated images. These are referred to as "animated gifs."
• You need a graphics program to be able to create your own gif images.
