Page Title
In general usage, the Page Title may refer to one of two
things:
- The text that is between the <title></title> tags in the
HTML code. On this web site, we will refer to this as the
title tag text.
- The text displayed in Navigation View, which FrontPage
uses when generating Page Banners
or Link Bar text. On this web
site, we will refer to this as the Page Title.
The Page Title should be distinguished from the
File Name of a page, which is
what displays in the Folder List.
What may get confusing is that in Navigation View, the
text displayed on each page is the Page Title. However, in
Folders View, the "Page
Title" referenced there will actually change the title tag
text.
On some occasions, you may wish to have the title tag
text different from the Page Title. For example, the title
tag text is usually used by search engines when indexing
your page, so you may want a longer description in your
title tag text. However, the area for your link bars may be
limited, and you may wish to keep the Page Title short. In
general,
changing the Page Title in Navigation View will also
change the title tag text. However, you may then switch to
HTML View or
Code View and manually type in
your own title tag text. (Note - you may also switch to
Folders View and change the
"Page Title" there.)
