Table Properties

Table properties can be accessed by right-clicking within a table and choosing Table Properties. You may also set most, if not all, of the properties when you first insert a table.

Note: In FrontPage, you may manually adjust the table sizes by dragging on table lines. However, please note that this only works for tables that have a defined width and/or height. If you have a resizable table, dragging on table lines may freeze the table to have a defined width and height and thereby destroy the layout.

FrontPage 2002

The Insert Table dialog box has slightly fewer options than the Table Properties dialog box.

  • Rows & Columns: How many rows and columns you want. (Only in Insert Table.)
  • Alignment: Left, Right, or Centered, relative to the page.
  • Width: How big you want your table to be. You can have a fixed width (in pixels) or a width relative to the page (in percent -- it will resize automatically when you resize your browser window). If not defined, your table will grow horizontally to fit the content you place inside of it.
  • Height: How tall you want your table to be. This usually does not need to be set, as your table will grow vertically to fit the content that you place inside of it.
  • Cell padding: The space the edge of the cell and what's inside the cell.
  • Cell spacing: The space between cells.
  • Border size: How wide you want the outside border to be.
  • Border color: Allows you to set the color of the border.
  • Light border/Dark border: Allows you to set the color of the light and dark borders (if border size is more than 1), but may not work in all browsers.
  • Show both cells and table borders: This option allows both a table border (the blue border below) and a cell border (the white border around each cell below). This may not display consistently across different browsers.
  • Background: Allows you to set a background image or color for the table. Older browsers may display the image inconsistently. If you set a background image that is smaller than the rendered table, the background image will repeat. Modify the Style properties to set more specific parameters for how the background image is displayed.
  • Style: Allows you to format the table properties using Cascading Style Sheets.

FrontPage 2003

The Insert Table and Table Properties dialog boxes are exactly the same.

  • Layout Tools: You may enable/disable layout tools for your table. If your table is intended to hold data, disable layout tools. If your table is intended for underlying page layout, enable the tools.
  • Rows & Columns: How many rows and columns you want.
  • Alignment: Left, Right, or Centered, relative to the page.
  • Float: This will push your table to the left or the right, with text flowing around it. May not work in all browsers.
See diagram below.
  • Cell spacing: The space between cells. See diagram below.
  • Border size: How wide you want the outside border to be.
  • Border color: Allows you to set the color of the border.
  • Light border/Dark border: Allows you to set the color of the light and dark borders (if border size is more than 1), but may not work in all browsers. This will not be applicable if you collapse the table border.
  • Collapse table border: This will make the table border solid, instead of the default bevel style.
