FrontPage
2002 - Navigation
At this point, you should have:
- A trial or registered version of FrontPage
2002
- A sample template downloaded from our web site
- A new web created from the sample template
- Experience with editing text and include pages
- Experience with "previewing in browser"
- Experience with adding hyperlinks
7. Change Page Titles and Link Bar Text
FrontPage makes it very easy to change the
page banner
text and link bar
text.
- Click on the "Navigation" button in your
Views Bar.

- This is the
Navigation View. It shows the
navigation structure
of your web site.

- Right-click on the page you want to rename. Select
Rename.

- Type in the new name. For example, you can change
"Template" to "About Us."
- If you click on the file name tab to return to page
view, you'll see that the corresponding links on the
link bars have
changed as well as the text on the
Page Banner.
- However, you'll also notice that the
file name in
the
Folder List has not
been changed. This may get confusing, since your file name
does not accurately reflect your new
Page Title.
- You may also rename your file by right-clicking in the
Folder List and
choosing Rename.

- Type in the new
file name for your
page. The file name should keep the .htm extension and
should be one word with no special characters. Hyphens and
underscores are permitted.
- You can make the same kinds of changes by going to
Folders View.
Occasionally changing the
Page Title
in
Folders View will
not change what shows up on the bars and banners, so
changing the Page Title in Navigation View is usually
recommended.
8. Rearrange pages on link bars
You may easily rearrange the pages on your link bars by
simple dragging and dropping.
- Switch to Navigation View
by clicking on the Navigation button in the
Views Bar.
- The navigation links or buttons that are based on your
navigation structure
are ordered according to the order of the pages in your navigation
structure. So if you want Template to show up second on the
link
bar list, you can simply click and drag it to the new place.

- Now, if you click back to one of your pages, you'll see that the
link order on the link
bar
has changed!
9. Add a new page
- With an existing page open, go to File > Save As.

- Change the file name. For example, change "gettingstarted.htm"
to "services.htm."
- Click the "Change" or "Change Title" button to change the page
title. For example, change "Getting Started" to "Our Services."
- Click Save.
- Your new page has been created! If you preview this page in a browser,
you will notice that the
navigation buttons and
page banner do not show
up. This is because you need to move the page into your
navigation structure
to get the link bars working. Switch to Navigation View
and
drag the page into your navigation structure.

- You may now double-click the page to open it up in
Page View and start
editing the contents.
10. Delete a page.
- To delete pages from your web, right-click on the page you wish to
delete in your Folder
List or in Folders
View and select "Delete.
- To delete multiple pages, hold down the control key and left-click
the files you want to delete, then right-click to select "Delete."
